Last night, I had a conversation with one of my clients that I know many of you can relate to. She was reflecting on a recent visit with her mom and noticed how difficult it was for her to walk up the stairs. Her mom simply said, “This is what old age is.”

But my client realized something powerful—that’s NOT how she wants to age.

This realization fueled her commitment to strength training and making healthier choices today so she can live with vitality later on. What we do NOW directly affects our future health.

Genetics vs. Epigenetics: You Have More Control Than You Think

Many of us assume we’re just "destined" for whatever health struggles run in our families. But science tells a different story. Epigenetics shows that while genetics play a role, your environment—your diet, exercise, sleep, stress, and lifestyle—determines whether those genes get expressed.

For me, this hits home. I refuse to accept that I’m automatically at risk for cancer just because it runs in my family. Instead, I’m taking action—prioritizing my health through movement, nutrition, and self-care.

  • Strength train regularly

  • Eat whole, real foods

  • Prioritize quality sleep

  • Reduce exposure to toxins in products & food 

  • Manage stress and stay kind to yourself
